Playing & Naming

I realized earlier this week that Thomas has reached a new milestone. When I walked into the nursery to get him on Sunday morning he was playing with the other kids. Up until now he has been with other kids, but never playing with them. It is neat seeing him interact with other children now and even better that he will soon have a little brother to play with - well, it will be a while before he can "play" with little brother. I had read at some point that at about 18 months toddlers begin playing with others, instead of playing alongside, and I'm glad to see he has now reached that point - yes, I'm a "by the book mom" as Josh likes to say!

Thomas is also doing great learning how to play alone in his room. We bought a gate this week to teach him he has to stay in his room for an allotted time. Yesterday, he was in there for over an hour and even shut the door! I listened in and he was having a great time. We are working hard on having a consistent schedule and thus far he is responding well to it. I really want some consistency in his day for him and for me.

On other news, still no name for this baby boy. We don't wait until the baby is born and you have to go the hospital and see the baby before you can know his name (just had to throw that in Chris & Amy!), but we just don't have a name yet. Josh always wanted a son named Joshua Thomas, and once he agreed we would call him Thomas, the name was settled. However, neither one of us are passionate about a particular name, and while I have given MANY ideas, Josh is still undecided. In fact, he told me today it would be "some time." He is still thinking about it, but I'm going to try to get him to make a decision by my birthday. If any of you have any (serious) ideas, we are listening!

Since no one has given any name suggestions on the blog, I guess I will have to give one. :) I really like the name Nathanael (any variation of spelling is fine with me) or Nathan. My youngest nephew is named Nathanael and it just seems like such a strong name to me. I also like the thought of the shortened name Nate. Just a thought!

Nathan is actually a name I mentioned to Josh. Some other names we are considering are: Josiah, Seth, Joel, Philip, Micah, & Elijah. Yes - it is a lot! We do have the middle name, so we have to pick a first name to go with it. I think Josh is doing something special for my bday, so hopefully this time next week we will have a name for this sweet boy - I'm ready to announce it!

I would give a name suggestion but I'd be giving away our boy name if this happens to be a boy! :-) I like those names that you picked. Josiah, I love... it's Gabriel's middle name. And I would us Micah but it's my brother-in-laws name :-) Great choices! Good strong ones!
